Two affordable, fast, two-seat roadsters.....From GM????

That's right, the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky are GM's new entry-level sports roadsters. Stiff, agile, and quick, these cars are slated to run neck-in-neck with the Mazda Miata and Honda S2000.

The base models are equipped with a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine that produces 177hp. 0-60 times are average for the class, around 7.5 seconds. The standard 5-speed manual transmission has short throws and close ratios, making for a spirited drive, even in base form.

The optional performance models, the GXP and Red Line models, are really where these cars shine. They are equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder, producing 260hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. These pocket rockets fly to 60mph under 5.5 seconds.

With more power than the Porsche Boxster, and a base price under $30,000 for GXP and Red Line model, this is one of the best bang-for-your-buck sports cars on the market. Throw in a few goodies like power windows and locks, and the boy-racer suspension and cat-back exhaust, you have a nice little rocket for your weekend ride.

Afraid of fitting? Don't be. At 6'1" and 200lbs, the front buckets were a perfect fit for me, with some room to move. Good shifter placement and radio controls make the interior a nice place to be for a drive.

Lord knows there will be one in my garage. Keep it around for a few more years, please.

Oh, and the pic of the Pontiac is of the '09 model. Looks muuuch sweeter.
